"I thought you could pick locks..." Kobaj whimpered as he saw Sparky set to work on opening up the gate.
Sparky gave Kobaj a look, one that implied 'what do you think I'm doing?' without actually uttering a word.
"An angle grinder is not picking locks!" Kobaj protested. However his words fell on def ears as Sparky began to cut through the steel mesh of the fence. Golden sparks and raucous howls from the machine filled the air. The whole process only took a second or two, but it felt like hours to the nervous fennec. Then silence and stillness returned to the calm moonlit night, and the gate stood wide open.
Kobaj very quickly considered turning around and leaving. Surely someone heard and saw that racket, and would be here any minute now to arrest them. Why was he here anyway? He had nothing to prove, this was all just a dumb bet...
"Yip!" Kobaj barked in surprise. Sparky had grabbed Kobaj by his jacket and pulled him inside. Well he had no choice now.
Sparky's tail wagged with each step as the two of them marched deeper into the facility. Especially when they finally made it inside the main generator room. Surprisingly not a soul was around to stop them. And so the excited and happy fennec gestured for Kobaj to relax, look around, enjoy the sites.
And what a view! Along one wall stood massive motors hundreds of feet tall connected to turbines. All of which was encased in a thick concrete barrier. Yellow warning lights spun on top of each languidly, indicating that the heavy cables strewn everywhere were very much alive and deadly. On the other wall were floor to ceiling windows overlooking the spillway. It looked like a giant waterfall. And throughout it all a deep rumble pounded and reverberated around the fennecs. So intense that they felt it more than heard it.
Now all that remained was to finish the bet. Sparky dug out a sticker from his backpack and with a devious grin applied it to one of the large metal scaffolds. Meanwhile Kobaj got his phone out and set it up into selfie mode. "Cheese" he said as he took a picture.
